Description
A college student, Pepper Monroe, is in search of ideas for a history project. Her search takes her a small country cemetery and an unusual epitaph captures her imagination. A retired groundskeeper observes her interest in the particular headstone and strikes up a conversation with the young woman. The story he shares with her of the lingering racial hatred after the emancipation and the plight of one family provides her a heartrending story for her project.
