Haere mai!
Welcome to Affinity E-Book Press NZ LTD
March 2017 Newsletter
Kia Ora readers

Koru here,

Oh it’s happy feet time, at least for the Dragon. She’s heading off the southern hemisphere shores to the balmy Texan landscape. She keeps threatening to take me with, but it never happens. Still, I live vicariously through her and our lovely authors who share their adventures.

Of course let’s not forget the Lone Star Festival on the 1st of April. She admitted to participating in a couple of discussions, the agenda is outlined later. I know she loved her first experience last year.

Remember readers if you have the chance to visit the event, please do. Lots of wonderful authors from Affinity, Bold Strokes and Independents, they love to interact with the readership and this is a free event.

Right let’s talk March books. The very talented Renee Mackenzie has penned her first all-out romance, Pausing, and if you are an avid reader of contemporary romance this one is for you.

Then the Dragon has been working behind my back because I wasn’t aware of this book until a few months ago, that sneaky dragon! JM Dragon's, Breaking the Silence, a romance that will have you settling in, then wondering what the heck, and ultimately providing a romantic conclusion.

Please check out the videos on Facebook and don’t forget our authors love contact from their readership. Please contact them and be honest, all authors worth their salt take the good and bad in equal measure. Because ultimately, they want to entertain you and we are here to do just that.

Onward dear readers, to more specifics about the books of the month…

As always, any comments or feedback, please send it my way comments@affinityrainbowpublications.com.

Still grieving five years after the death of her father, Dilana Sterling is a shadow of the woman she once was…a successful author with a string of best sellers, and a longer string of women.

SG Ryan, her publisher and only friend since her decline, cajoles Dilana into renting a beach house in the small town of Meredith. Hoping the forced change will bring some light back into her friend.

Rachael Alderman, a teacher at the local orphanage, lives a quiet, yet satisfying life. Growing up in the orphanage herself, she loves her surrogate mother, Sister Angela, and the many orphans that come into her life.

When Dilana and Rachael meet, they develop a friendship that leads them on personal journeys of self-discovery. Will their memories of the past prevent them from moving towards each other, or will they find a path that leads to each other so they can experience life together?

Jordy Chapman is the Emergency Service Coordinator at Cypress Haven mental health facility in Naples, FL.      Keira Yeager’s family owns an upscale furniture store in Naples. A family tragedy and personal heartbreak has her concentrating on working at the store, or swimming in the pool behind her house. When Keira orchestrates a generous donation of furniture to Cypress Haven, she has no idea how this one event will change her life.

When the two meet, they hit it off immediately and things heat up and turn passionate. Will the Yeager family’s anguish and misunderstanding threaten their new relationship?

It's In Her Kiss
Various Affinity Authors

Back of the Book

‘Twas the night before…no, wait, wrong story…

Affinity and their authors love the holidays, any and all holidays. What better way to celebrate the holidays than with a book filled with several short stories centered around different holidays.

Erin O’Reilly (Auld Lang Syne) and Alane Hotchkin (Fire and Ice) start us off with their New Year’s stories.

Spend Australian Day with Erica Lawson in Slow Burn

Join Ali Spooner (To Catch a Leprechaun) and Lacey Schmidt (Love’s Luck) as they celebrate St. Patrick’s day.

Fly away with Jen Silver as she brings the Beltane party to us, with Beltane in Space.

An anthology wouldn’t be complete without a little trick or treating, so grab your costumes and enjoy Halloween with Annette Mori (Vampire Pussy...Cat) and Charlene Neil (Trick or Treat)

And last, but certainly not least, we have Christmas to bring this anthology to an end. TJ Vertigo gives us a Reece and Faith-styled Christmas in Merry Christmas, Reece, and Annette Mori brings Nicky and the gang back for Nicky’s Christmas Miracle X3.

Your support of this book will not only allow Affinity authors to bring their version of holiday love into your hearts but will enable many others to benefit from you in a tangible way.

All proceeds from this book go to the Montrose Center www.montrosecenter.org.

Erin O'Reilly: First challenged by a friend to write a story, Erin has since written numerous online and publish works. Her story, Deception, was a GCLS Finalist in 2008. That book also garnered the Sapphic Readers Award in 2009. Story creation involving strong characters always seems to dictate the story and invade her mind at all hours. It always amazes her when the characters she is developing suddenly take on a life of their own and lead the story down a completely different path. She thinks that, when all is done, the characters make an impact on the story-lines, and the story is better for it.

Del Robertson has always enjoyed reading, particularly fantasy, but was sadly disappointed in the ‘traditional’ fairy tales of olde. In her mind, having some prince fight the fire-breathing dragon, evil wizards, and black knights to save the damsel in distress with nothing more than a kiss as reward just wasn’t satisfying. Why couldn’t the maiden save herself? Or for that matter, where was a girl with a big sword when you needed one? That’s when Del figured out that if she couldn’t find the stories she wanted to read about, she could write them herself.
Thankfully, the women at Affinity eBook Press NZ LTD agreed and have allowed her imagination to run loose unchecked across the countryside. For a complete listing of Del's books, click here.
Ali Spooner, a native of Florida, currently living in Pensacola. As an “Indie” author, Ali has been writing for many years as a hobby, and with the assistance of the Affinity team, has taken her love of storytelling to a new level.
Ali’s characters range from cowgirls and psychics, to a healthy dose of supernatural beings. She has written stand-alone titles and series. Ali is an avid reader and her other hobbies include photography, outdoor activities and watching college sports.

Linda Crist is the author of reader favorite the Kennedy and Carson series (which begins withThe Bluest Eyes in Texas), and 2006 Goldie award finalist, Galveston 1900: Swept Away, as well as short stories in two anthologies, and thousands of pages of online fan fiction.  She is the recipient of numerous online writing awards, including the Royal Academy of Bards Lifetime Achievement Award and Hall of Fame awards, Xippy awards, Bard's Challenge awards, and Swollen Bud awards. She was also on the Xena Subtext Virtual Season staff, and on the staff of the Orlando BardCon, which ran for four years at Walt Disney World.
A 4th generation Texan, Linda started writing at an early age by composing picture stories on the church bulletin. She holds a Journalism degree from The University of Texas at Austin, where she interned with the Lady Longhorns Sports Information Office. After college,  she worked for two years as a section editor with the Dallas Times Herald.   Linda describes herself as a Xenite, Parrothead and general sci-fi/fantasy geek.  She is passionate about the environment, animal welfare, and the outdoors in general, and enjoys biking, hiking, beach-combing, kayaking, scuba diving, travel, photography, live music, micro-brews, good conversation over good coffee, and of course, writing.  Linda's Website is  http://texbard.com and readers can "friend" her on FaceBook at: http://www.facebook.com/texbard.

As a Navy brat, Renee lived on three continents before her family settled in Virginia. She currently resides in Southwest Florida with her partner, Pam, and their poodle, Sabrina. Renee works and plays in the swamp, where she enjoys wildlife photography, kayaking, and hiking. Even though Renee has been paid to do all sorts of jobs, ranging from dental assistant to bartender, data entry clerk to maintenance worker, and field sampler to pet-sitter, she insists she’s only had one job—writer—and all the rest has just been research.

Annette is an award winning author and health care executive living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with her wife and their five furry kids. She has six published novels including Goldie award winner Locked Inside. Two more novels scheduled for release in 2017. Annette is thankful for the support of so many wonderful readers which encourages her to pen more stories.

Lacey Schmidt holds a doctorate in industrial-organizational psychology that has afforded her many opportunities to travel and learn how all kinds of interesting people help make the world go around. She resides in Houston with her wife, and they find the cheaper cost-of-living there very convenient (given their penchant for expensive hobbies like photography and scuba diving). Lacey’s previous publications include a poetry book, The Nightshade Lexicon, the lesbian romance short-story Love’s Luck, the lesbian romance novel A Walk Away, and the romantic suspense novel, Catch to Release published by Affinity eBook Press NZ.   Her website http://laceyschmidt.blogspot.com/ contains new poetry, essays, novel excerpts, and music every month.  Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Next month, Alane Hotchkin’s Fortunes will be released. A not to miss book with romance, suspense, a hot chick with a tool belt, and a cop with a major attitude!

And she’s back...Annette Mori has a new novel, Captivated. This is another not to miss read. Annette takes us on a whirlwind ride with obsessive-compulsive Juliet and sexy paranoid officer Tanner.

Next month we should have pics and news from the Lonestar Festival happening April 1st, so the newsletter might be a day late to accommodate. But don’t hold your breath, trust me when I say this crowd enjoys a good time, and sometimes forget we need those pesky details.

Now all the news and upcoming is done with, I want to salute two special members of Affinity who have died recently. You might not know them, but they were a part of what makes up Affinity. Those special furry members of the family that support us when life says move on and do something else, and love us unconditionally.

Oscar-- A loving companion, who has inspired not only Erin O’Reilly but JM Dragon. We miss you buddy big time. Darn I’m going to miss the walks and cheating on the treats-yeah gave too many.

Zena- Life sometimes gives us bad breaks, but my mom (Nancy) loved me without reservation, and saved me. (Zena saved me too!)

Life is all about belief in oneself and the companions we share who make it happen, and make our lives better.

March Fun Days and Facts

Everyone knows that March means Saint Patrick's Day, and in March, especially on the 17th, we all have just a bit of Irish in us. Lat's see what else the month has to offer up.

March 1st is Ash Wednesday. It is the first day of the Lent season for Christians. During this time, they fast, and give up things they love for the 46 days of Lent.
As a Catholic, I remember the no meat on Friday rule, going to mass and getting ashes on my forehead, and having to give up something I really didn't want to. When I was 13, I thought I was being clever when I told my mom I wanted to give up my virginity for Lent. She didn't think it near as funny as I did...who knew?

March 8th is International Women's Day. It was first celebrated in 1911 with its focus being on women workers, and advancing their rights in society, politics and the workforce. We've come a long way baby!

March 14th is National Pi Day. Pi is a mathematical concept and a number that never ends, often referred to as 3.14, hence March 14th is Pi day.

March 15th is the Ides of March, the first day of the Roman New Year, and their first day of spring. (Ours is March 20th, Spring Equinox) It is also the day that Caesar ignored the warnings from his soothsayer to 'beware the Ides of March' and was stabbed by Brutus.

Now to my day of March...the 17th. This day honors the Patron Saint of the Emerald Isles, Ireland.
This day is seeped in tradition and symbols, shamrocks, leprechauns, green beer  corned beef and cabbage, parades, and did I mention beer?
Did you know that the corned beef was not the traditional Irish fare? Their meal consisted of salt pork or a bacon joint to go with the cabbage and potatoes. The ancient Celtics considered cows to be sacred and were used as work animals.  Another interesting fact is that the first St. Patrick's Day parade was not held in Ireland, but in New York City in 1762.

March 23rd is National Puppy Day, and it celebrates...you guessed it puppies! It is a special day to recognize the unconditional love and joy our furry friends bring into out lives. So grab your fur kid, give it a hug, kiss, new toy and return their love just as unconditionally!

As always, take care readers, talk to you next month.
  E noho r?–Goodbye,
  Koru
